About the Journal
Created in 1981, the Canadian Journal of Native Studies is the oldest Indigenous Studies journal in Canada. It is a highly recognized, peer reviewed journal in the field of Native/Indigenous Studies and publishes a wide array of articles focusing on issues related to Indigenous Peoples and Indigenous Affairs across Turtle Island and other locations around the globe.
The Canadian Journal of Native Studies transitioned to an online, open access journal in May of 2025, allowing us to expand on our current offerings. We publish on a bi-annual basis (May/Nov) and authors are not charged to publish with the Canadian Journal of Native Studies.
A vast number of sources index the Canadian Journal of Native Studies, including: America History and Life, Anthropological Index, Bibliography of Natives of North America; CPIQ: Canadian Periodical Index, Indigenous Studies Portal, Historical Abstracts, and MLA International Bibliography.
