The Canadian Journal of Native Studies is an international refereed periodical that publishes articles and reviews concerning Indigenous People and Indigenous Affairs across Turtle Island and other locations around the globe.   The Canadian Journal of Native Studies was the first Indigenous Studies journal in Canada beginning publication in 1981. Open Access and Copyright
 
The journal is currently undergoing a transformation to Open Access and is welcoming a new Editorial Board,  Reviewers and Submissions.
 
The journal makes its publication openly available via the CC 4.0 License  whereby the author grants the publisher the right of first publication, and other non-exclusive publishing rights,  but keeps copyright.   Acceptance of this license is a condition for publication. 
 
Policies and Procedures for Editorial Staff, Contributors and Reviewers

Contributors to the journal are asked to adhere to the journal’s Indigenization Policy (https://journals.brandonu.ca/cjnsoa/policies ), Ethic Statement (link) , as well as the C.A.R.E.  and O.C.A.P.  Principles.    The journal welcomes submissions from Indigenous authors for its Indigenous Perspectives (https://journals.brandonu.ca/cjnsoa/about/submissions)   and Indigenous Voices (https://journals.brandonu.ca/cjnsoa/about/submissions )  sections.   All contributors must follow our Submissions Process (https://journals.brandonu.ca/cjnsoa/about/submissions ) and   Research Article submissions

History of the Journal
The Canadian Journal of Native Studies was founded by Dr. Samuel Corrigan who served as Chief Editor from 1981–2008.  He was followed by Dr. Lorraine Mayer who served as Chief Editor from 2008-2023.  

The Canadian Journal of Native Studies was originally published by the Society for the Advancement of Native Studies and came out on a bi-annual basis.  It has published original research, which is peer-reviewed, from its beginnings.  It also has made volumes 1-30 available retroactively (https://cjns.brandonu.ca )
