Publication Ethics
The Journal of Rural and Community Development Code of Ethics (Draft, December 3, 2022)
The JRCD is developing A Code of Ethics that conforms to Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) (https://publicationethics.org/). The following represents the JRCDs first efforts.
The Editor
The Editor works to improve the quality of the research it publishes, ensures the integrity of the peer-review process, and attempts to ensure communications and processes are efficient. The Editor provides support to staff, authors and reviewers. The Editor communicates with all relevant parties to ensure the integrity of the submission, review and publication processes.
The Editor will also:
- adhere to COPE guidelines
- avoid bias at all stages of the submission, review and publication process
- respect intellectual property
- strive to ensure the work published also meets the ethical standards of COPE (e.g. authorship, originality, factuality, referencing, disclosures made etc.)
The Editorial Board will:
- adhere to COPE guidelines
- avoid bias at all stages of the submission, review and publication process
- respect intellectual property
- strive to ensure the work published also meets the ethical standards of COPE (e.g. authorship, originality, factuality, referencing, disclosures made etc.)
- make contributions to support the ethical integrity of the work published by the JRCD.
Reviewers will:
- adhere to COPE guidelines
- avoid bias at all stages of the submission, review and publication process
- respect intellectual property
- strive to ensure the work published also meets the ethical standards of COPE (e.g. authorship, originality, factuality, referencing, disclosures made etc.)
- ensure timeliness of their review and provide fair and unbiased comments in their reporting
Publisher (Rural Development Institute)
The Publisher:
- works with the Editorial Board to ensure the adherence to COPE and to establish editorial and publication procedures, including subject areas
- ensures a work environment free of bias, harassment and discrimination
- will respond to concerns raised by the Editorial Board, reviewers, authors and other individuals or associations that have raised concerns.
Authors
All authors will:
- ensure accuracy and fairness in authorship
- ensure that their work is accurately referenced and plagiarism-free
- will not falsify or fabricate data
- provide evidence that their research followed their research follows, and was approved by, the research ethics body of their institution or association
- provide a statement that there were no competing interests either financial or otherwise in the conduct of the research or presentation of the findings.
